Capturing your life in video on Instagram just got a lot more interesting. The company just announced that it's increasing the video time limit to a full 60 seconds.

Compared to the 15-second videos available on the platform before, this new one-minute time limit will feel like an eternity.

To announce the feature, Instagram put together a short video montage of recent videos posted on the platform.

The move is particularly interesting in that it moves away from the 10-second time limit popular in apps like Snapchat and inches Instagram closer to YouTube territory.

Think about it, with a time limit of one minute, clever video producers could easily begin crafting even more elaborate mini-documentaries of their lives, one one-minute snapshot at a time.

For anyone who lives on Instagram, this is an absolutely seductive update that could pull them even further away from the video confines of YouTube.

However, the update is described as "rolling out today ... available for everyone in the coming months," which likely means it may only be available to influencers during its initial stages.
