Freelancers spend an average of 40 hours a week on their projects. But have you ever heard of “unproductive tasks”? Unlike traditional employees, freelancers often undertake tasks such as client acquisition, accounting, or customer care without direct compensation. Consequently, they must simultaneously concentrate on generating income through their core services or projects. Due to this, balancing administrative responsibilities with paid work can be challenging. We took a closer look at the conditions under which freelancing takes place, and you can find more insights in the Freelancer Study 2024 - the report on the present and future of freelancing. https://lnkd.in/dgjjWjgU #freelancer #freelance #freelancerstudy2024 #freelancing #selfemployment #selfemployed #insights #facts #remotework #productivity #newwork #freelancerevolution #futureofwork

The gender pay gap is beginning to close… So should female freelancers sit back and relax? No: men are still earning more than women, and there is still room for improvement, as women on average earn less than men - even if the difference in hourly rates is now only eight euros compared to eleven euros in 2023. In terms of average income, female freelancers are ahead of their male counterparts in the mid-range, but their participation in the higher income groups is almost halved. Although women have the highest proportion of graduates among the respondents, this does not necessarily translate into higher hourly rates, especially when compared to men with Master's degrees. Women are also more likely to work in specialized fields that traditionally pay less (e.g., graphics, content, media, communications, and marketing), while men are one and a half to almost three times more likely to work in fields with the highest hourly rates, such as IT infrastructure or SAP. To reduce economic inequality between the sexes, women should not only improve their hourly rates but also become more active in male-dominated sectors. What do freelancers think about their future job situation? Almost 8 out of 10 freelancers are relaxed about the near future: they expect the project market situation to remain the same or improve. However, optimism is also muted here compared to the previous year: the number of those who fear that their situation will worsen has increased (2024: 22%, 2023: 13%). What could be the reason for this? It could be due to seasonal fluctuations, economic uncertainties, and new competitors. Changes in demand due to customer requirements, technological advances, or personal circumstances such as illness or holidays could also play a role. Forecasts are subjective, so the future development of the project market remains uncertain. What are your expectations for the next few years? Write in the comments! And don’t forget to download our report if you want to learn more about the financial situation of freelancers in 2024. Did you know? Hourly rates should be constantly adjusted. Successful freelance pricing is a continuous process of gathering intelligence and being bold in acting on it. Many freelancers stick to one pricing method for too long, leading to underpricing. - Robert Vlach, author of 'The Freelance Way'. If you're curious for more tips and statistics about freelancing, check out the link in the comments. How often do you increase your hourly rate? Or do you not change it at all? What do freelancers earn? Depending on gender, industry, and specialization, freelancers' hourly rates and income satisfaction vary enormously - but they still earn more than permanent employees, with the average hourly rate in 2024 being €98. Why are freelancers so well paid? Because they are experts at what they do. And because demand for freelancers is high - which is now making supply much more expensive. The number of high-earning freelancers has risen significantly in 2024, as have hourly rates. Why stick to the 9-to-5? Freelancing offers 72% more independence, 61% more freedom in decision-making, and 58% better time management than permanent employment. For freelancers, working independently of time and place is a matter of course. Hannes Zacher, Professor of Work and Organisational Psychology at the University of Leipzig, is absolutely right with this statement. Freelancing means being your own boss. It also means being able to decide when, where and for whom you work. These advantages are often the decisive reason for taking the step into self-employment, as 89% of those surveyed do not regret it.
