    woohoo! finally! thx guys!

Well this is real nice, but my bookmarklett seems to now be missing the feature where it finds my existing tags as I type. Anyway I can get that back? It also doesn’t seem to show a list of all of my existing tags either. How am I supposed to know what tags I have?

Any chance I can get those back?

  • zvi_likes_tv…  |  Nov 29 2005 at 11:49 pm

I’m having the same issue as G. This has happened just tonight. When I post, I no longer see all of the tags I have already entered, just system tags and recommended tags, and it doesn’t try to autocomplete tags as I type.

This was some of the best functionality on del.icio.us. It helped make sense of the tags, to make sure I tagged similar things in similar ways. Please bring it back.

  • joshua…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 12:06 am

G, zvi: This is probably an unrelated error. if you are still having the problem, email support@ with your account name and I can fix it.

Two problems – I can’t see my own tags when tagging new page, and all windows except adding new page are opening in the current tab, I want an option to open in a new tab. Thanks!

  • Dima…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 9:38 am

Correction – I see my own tags when typing start of tag name, but i would rather prefer to see whole list in the bottom…

  • Blake West…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 10:01 am

In a future version, I’d really like to have the option of choosing between the popup, version 4 post interface, or the same-window, version 3 interface. I have no problem typing in the popup to get my tags input, but my wife is frequently holding a sleeping baby while surfing the Web. She only has one hand free to use the mouse. The version 3 interface is better for her becasue she can see all her previous tags and just click to select.

I guess it seems like constraining the extension to the v4 post interface is an accessibility problem. Providing an option would help with that. Thanks.

  • Benoit Lacherez…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 10:20 am

That’s really great! This extension works very fine and it makes my del.icio.us experience even better (and it was already so good!)! :-)

  • G…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 10:53 am

    Mr. Joshua and Del.icio.us developers,

As long as we’re requesting features I’d really love to have a way to post all open tabs in Firefox to del.icio.us. Drop me an email and I’ll even design the interface if you’re busy. I know exactly how I want it to work.

And some random del.icio.us features I’d like:

    1. Allow me to set an expiration date for both url’s and also a given tag(s) for a url. For example I’d like to tag something as TODO for 30 days then have it go away.

    2. Allow me to save notes in del.icio.us or perhaps integrate with google base, so it looks like I’m saving a note to my del.icio.us account but really it’s adding an entry to google base and posting that url.

    3. Obviously we need tag unions, not just intersections. but that’s probably already on the list for you.

    4. Someday unfortunately we’ll probably need some kind of anti-spam feature. Perhaps we could block not only by user but also block any user blocked by 30 0ther users or something similar.

    5. And I’ve got about 10 other ideas I can’t remember right now so just drop me an email if you run low on your own ideas ;-)

Very good work, but the functionality that this needs next is something along the lines of what Foxylicious and that “delicious” plugin that someone posted above are trying to accomplish (with little success in my opinion), and that is to have quick access to your links directly from the browser (either as a sidebar, or drop down, or idaely user preference which of the two). And please make that thing support tag bundles. It’s a pain in the ass scanning through fifty or a hundred ungrouped tags trying to figure out where you put something. That’s the main reason I gave up on Foxylicious.

topinambeur – It’s pretty easy to get at the source. Go to:

In there is delicious.jar, which is a zip containing the extension files. You can rename the file .zip and just unzip the contents.

The “Tag this page” menu item doesn’t work (neither from the context menu or the menubar). Also, in the customize dialog, they buttons only show up in a combo with the default set of Firefox buttons, not on their own.

  • arnet…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 4:41 pm

In my computer the new extension is slower than the : http://delicious.mozdev.org/ I stand with the first one.

  • daniel…  |  Nov 30 2005 at 4:42 pm

    A few suggestions:

    * hotkey for context menu “tag this page”

    * automatically close the post popup window!!

    * since the post popup window sometimes takes more than a few seconds to complete showing…could you just leave it unfocused all the time? and let user switch to it when they want.. first I can’t wait the popup to show.. secondly I don’t want to it to suddenly hijack the focus..

    thanks

I like it, I like it a lot!

I have two problems that you might want to consider working on, in fact I might dig in and fix it myself if I can. Here are the problems that I have:

Issue #1: When I pull up the tagging dialog, I think it would be most convenient to have the tag field automatically focused so that I can enter some tags and press return to bookmark the page quickly and easily. If I want to add a description then I can shift-tab to get back to that field. As it stands, the tag dialog is less keyboard-friendly than it could be and I find myself reaching for the mouse to focus the tag field.

Issue #2: I use dual monitors, so my desktop is 2560 pixels wide. There is a common problem with windows popping up centered – they end up in the middle of my split screen with half of the window on one screen, half on the other. It doesn’t make for an easy to use dialog box. I’m not sure what the easy solution is, however, I used to use a delicious extension from another developer, that extension pops up the tagging dialog relative to the firefox window rather than putting it in the center of the screen. Much nicer on my dual-screen setup. Normally my video driver takes care of moving dialogs away from the center of the screen, however, for some reason it won’t work with the delicious tag dialog.

That’s it, besides some minor issues, I am pleased with the performance of this extension. The interface is clean and it runs well, thanks for providing a nice piece of firefox goodness…

  • Cameron Olthuis…  |  Dec 1 2005 at 12:37 am

Very cool! This will be very helpful and save a lot of time.

  • Sammy Dellicour…  |  Dec 1 2005 at 4:25 am

Great extension, I had been waiting for these buttons.

Is there a way for the “tag” button to highlight when the page that I am viewing is already part of my Delicious collection ? (like Flock…) That would be fantastic.

  • ranvier…  |  Dec 1 2005 at 4:56 am

Hmm…i see that dynamic menus of ya existing relevent tags will be displayed whenever you partially typed in a word. With that available to us, it seems that we won’t get to see the existing tags list displayed anymore.

Well, for me, i think that if there is still an option to reactivate back the display of the existing tags we have at the bottom of the tagging window, it would certainly be fantastic because i tend to forget what tags i already have and it would be a bother going to the options page and see what tags i have…

    Thanks!

  • Thomas Broyer…  |  Dec 1 2005 at 10:29 am

This is a copy of the coment I just posted to the Mozilla Update page:

    Really cool extension!

Would it be possible to “open in new tab” when you “middle-click” (or shift+click) the “My del.icio.us” toolbar button or menu item? It shouldn’t be that hard since many other toolbar buttons and menu items already do it (Firefox’s default “Home” button, buttons of the personal toolbar or “Bookmarks” menu items).

  • DavidK…  |  Dec 1 2005 at 12:43 pm

Middle clicking the My Delicious button on the toolbar should open a new tab like the Home Page button in Firefox does.

Could you add that to a future release please.

    Other than that… damn fine.

  • orhan…  |  Dec 1 2005 at 5:10 pm

how about a statistic that shows the number of people who has bookmarked the link that i attempt to save. i know i can look at it by “show related tags and user” thingy but it takes time. it would be very nice to learn how many people has bookmarked my link. that is what we do,”social bookmarking” right?

  • LinkDJ…  |  Dec 4 2005 at 12:17 am

I love this extention, I was searching for one like it just a few days before its release! Anyways, one thing I would like to see added: I’d like a search box plugin (or even a seperate box) that let me type my own tags and it would take me to del.icio.us/myusername/tagquery. Is this a possibility?

  • LinkDJ…  |  Dec 4 2005 at 12:48 am

I went ahead and copied and edited the default script to take me straight to del.icio.us/myusername/searchquery. First, under “action” and “searchForm” I changed “search” to “myusername/”. Next, I replaced the “” tags with “”. Last, I changed the update paths to point to my website backup of the edited files. I rotated the del.icio.us icon 180 degrees so I can tell the difference between the regular search plugin. Hope this helps everyone!

  • Alis Clow…  |  Dec 4 2005 at 5:43 am

  • LinkDJ…  |  Dec 4 2005 at 11:35 am

  • Sammy Dellicour…  |  Dec 5 2005 at 4:21 am

Another vote here for Middle-click and Control-click to open my Delicious bookmarks in a new tab

  • alink…  |  Dec 5 2005 at 5:55 am

If you want to see all your tags with the pop-up bookmarklet (v4), you can edit its javascript (location in its properties) and remove the “&noui”.

(@ joshuah : maybe add some documentation about this in the API section?)

So, about the extension, you can hack the code:

    - close firefox

    - make a search of “del.icio.us.jar” in your profile folder (the file is in a deep sub-directory)

    - decompress this file

    - remove all “&noui”. (use the replace function, 4 occurences to change)

    - recompress the file (in jar)

    - restart firefox

    Works for me.

PS : The only drawback is the loss of the vertical popup of suggestions, but you keep the old horizontal suggestions (which don’t have counters besides each tags)

  • Jesse Ruderman…  |  Dec 5 2005 at 8:37 am

    Requests related to the extension:

    * A third vote for being able to middle-click the toolbar buttons to open them in tabs. I’d also like to be able to middle-click on menu items that take me to web pages. For hints on how to implement this, see the patch in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=246719, where I added the functions openUILink, whereToOpenLink, openUILinkIn, and checkForMiddleClick to Firefox and made middle-clicking on Firefox’s Back button work. You might also want to look at the source for my Thumbs extension, which has a button that opens a page in a new tab/window when clicked without a modifier but respects modifiers.

    * I’d like a button for “Show related tags and users”. I use this feature a lot.

    * Have an option for the Tag button to not open in a new window. Firefox takes a few seconds to open a new window on my computer, probably because I have too many extensions installed.

    * Fix the capitalization in the tooltip for the “Tag” button.

    * Make the :hover version of the “Tag” button more similar to the non-hover version (for consistency with the rest of Firefox).

Requests related to the “post” page that appears when I click the “Tag” button:

    * I have a hundred tags starting with “via:”, and it gets slow when I try to type one, probably because it’s trying to populate a list with a hundred items. Autocomplete needs to back off when there are too many items, or just add a few items at a time so it can remain responsive.

    * Shift+Tab should not fill in the autocomplete guess.

  • jamiebrammer…  |  Dec 5 2005 at 10:15 am

Excellent utility – I agree with G above in that what is really needed now is quick access to the bookmarks. How about a delicious toolbar that combines the tagging functionality with folders for your bundles?

  • analog…  |  Dec 9 2005 at 4:50 pm

the extension for del.icio.us at http://delicious.mozdev.org/ is faster in terms of adding tags, by using native GUI instead of launching new web window connecting to the web interface.

  • Jonathan…  |  Dec 10 2005 at 12:28 pm

I like the extension, but do you think there’s a way to just put that functionality in a right-click context menu instead of icons on the navigation bar? I don’t always need to see the My Delicious icon.

    First of all – I LOVE del.icio.us

This is a feature request, though I doubt I’m posting it in the right place. These buttons are great, but what is missing is an easy way to access the bookmarks you’ve stored. Could you make a Delicious menu next to Bookmarks which lists all the budle / tags and branches out to individual links? I know this would be a lot of work, but it would make your bookmarks even more powerful.

If you added the ability to drag a page into a bundle/tag to add that tag to it, it would be even better.

Just installed Firefox 2 final release and it disabled the extension. I miss it already so any idea when it’s going to be upgraded for version 2.0 compatibility?

I have tried to change the maxVersion field but now I can’t install the extension anymore… could the staff publish a newer version of this plugin?

    Thanks,

This seems like a great idea but how the heck do you move bookmarks around? I’ve just lost all the bookmarks on my personal toolbar and I can’t figure out FOR THE LIFE OF ME how to get them back there without going to each individual site and book marking it all over again somewhere else. I just want the quick access of having my list of book marks across the top of the screen like a I used to. Sorry delicious addon. If I can’t manage my book marks or make a directory that holds them so that there are listed on my personal toolbar this program is not much use to me.

this stupid extension ruined my bookmark toolbar

    thanks a lot

Re uninstalling del.icio.us (which won’t work for me, nor can I log on to my account. That is, it lets me log on once, then prompts me to logon again if I hit Tag in a vain attempt to upload bookmarks, and refuses to accept my logon):

Naraphim claims one can uninstall it under the Tools menu. I have the most recent Firefox, and there is no “extensions” to click on under Tools.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the whole browser, but that pesky piece of garbage persists.

  • britta…  |  Dec 24 2006 at 8:07 pm

loohan: to fix the login problem, try clearing your cookies under preferences. also, try looking for “add-ons” instead of “extensions” under the tools menu – the name changed in firefox 2.

  • loohan…  |  Dec 24 2006 at 8:56 pm

Yeah, thanks, Britta. I just figured out about the Add-Ons was coming back to post about it.

I just tried clearing the cookies, but it doesn’t help. Even actually went so far as to set it to allow cookies from the site. No difference.

could try asking the official support people about it :) http://del.icio.us/help/contact

  • Vivster08…  |  Jan 31 2007 at 1:28 pm

Okay, I got sick of del.icio.us REAL quick, because there didn’t seem to be a way to put my “classes” bookmarks in a “classes” folder, “fun” bookmarks in a “fun” folder, etc, so I uninstalled it. Even though I made sure the “make my bookmarks how they were before” option was checked, when I restarted Firefox most of my bookmarks are gone, including my toolbar, where all my links for my classes were. I have two exams next week, and it’s all gone. How happy do you think I am that I tried del.icio.us?

If somebody knows how to get my links back, PLEASE email me!!
