Welcome to Prince Andrew School Sixth Form

Functional Skills

SES

All students participate in SES.  The course is tailored to the needs of the students and focuses on personal development, community involvement and advice and guidance in careers and Higher Education.  A number of students follow the ASDAN Universities Award course.

Whole School Involvement

In addition, all academic students are expected to ‘give back’ to the school.  This may be for example  assisting teachers in lessons, peer counselling or  working with individual students. Students are also encouraged to participate in PE and Enrichment.

Work Experience

Academic students are also offered the opportunity to learn about the world of work.  Here, depending on their courses of study, they are placed with employers who can provide them with relevant on the job training.  Recent placements have been with the St Helena National Trust, a major retailer on the island, the Bank of St Helena, the ICT and the Legal, Lands and Planning Departments.

Vocational students spend 3-4 days in the workplace.  Here they develop the practical skills in automotive engineering or building and construction that they have been taught in school.
