Yahoo! has become a founding partner of the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, the new home of the San Francisco 49ers NFL franchise.

The Silicon Valley giant has signed a ten-year agreement, set to begin when the 49ers relocate from Candlestick Park in 2014, and will be designated as the exclusive online sports content, social networking, and photo and video sharing partner of the team and the 68,500-capacity venue.

Yahoo! will work with the 49ers to enhance the fan experience at their new US$1.2 billion stadium through its photo and video sharing site, Flickr, and Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football. At various concourse booths throughout the stadium, fans will be able to use Flickr to upload their photos to the 49ers Flickr photo gallery with the chance to be featured on one of the big screens.

As part of its deal the company will also receive branding rights to the stadium’s Fantasy Football lounge and two adjacent viewing platforms. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“The 49ers are thrilled to partner with Yahoo!, a locally-based, global brand that shares our vision for Levi's Stadium,” said 49ers chief executive Jed York. “Yahoo! is a tremendous example of Silicon Valley innovation at work. Their experience in servicing the fan and wealth of resources will serve integral roles as we strive to present an unparalleled experience to visitors of Levi's Stadium.”

Kathy Savitt, the chief marketing officer at Yahoo!, added: “The San Francisco 49ers aren't just a Sunday habit, they're a daily passion for fans throughout Northern California and across the world.

“We're thrilled that two iconic brands have come together around a common goal of providing the most inspiring and entertaining fan experience in all of sports. We couldn't be more excited to be a part of what will be an incredible environment at Levi's Stadium.”

Yahoo! becomes the ninth founding partner of the stadium, following Sunpower, Anheuser-Busch, Violin Memory, Brocade, Sony, SAP, NRG Energy and denim giant Levi’s, which signed a 20-year deal in early May worth US$220 million in total to name the venue.
